Position Summary
This role is responsible for guiding and supporting the manufacturing engineering function and CNC programmer coordinators for the Winnipeg Transcona Fabco operation. The supervisor will help drive Fabco’s manufacturing readiness effort, including maintaining equipment uptime so the operations team can reliably produce quality parts on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee manufacturing engineering support for the manufacturing cells.
- Supervise CNC programmer coordinators and make sure the cells they support have the resources they need.
- Confirm that manufacturing products, processes, and projects are planned and executed with safety in mind.
- Take part in safety incident reviews and help implement corrective actions to reduce the chance of repeat events.
- Collaborate as part of the manufacturing leadership group to help the team meet operational targets and follow up on corrective actions when needed.
- Direct the manufacturing engineering teams at the MCI Fabco site in support of the Annual Operating Plan and other strategic initiatives.
- Guide project teams and continuous improvement efforts using lean methods and tools.
- Review workload, task assignments, and project responsibilities so deadlines can be met effectively.
- Support make-or-buy decisions by ensuring the latest routing manuals, plant capabilities, and limitations are considered.
- Participate in Fabco’s manufacturing readiness process and help maintain equipment uptime so production teams are prepared to build quality parts on time.
- Foster a collaborative, innovative, and high-performing workplace that encourages teamwork and business competitiveness.
- Ensure processes and controls are in place to meet Health, Safety & Environmental and Quality requirements within the area of responsibility.
- Set team goals and performance measures, and hold accountable those responsible for meeting them.
- Drive initiatives to reduce machine downtime through preventive maintenance, TPM, operator and maintenance training, stronger OEM service support, and equipment replacement where needed.
- Lead strategic change initiatives as assigned.
- Encourage continuous improvement and strong teamwork across the department.
- Handle additional duties and special projects as required.
Requirements
- A degree or diploma in Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related discipline, or an equivalent mix of relevant education and hands-on experience.
- P.Eng. status is an advantage.
- At least 5 years of experience in a fast-moving manufacturing setting, along with solid knowledge of production processes and continuous improvement approaches.
- Prior exposure to CNC brake press machinery.
- Background in team leadership or effective collaboration in cross-functional environments.
- Lean Manufacturing knowledge, APICS certification, or similar practical experience is considered beneficial.
- Good working knowledge of MS Excel, Teamcenter, Oracle EBS, and other manufacturing systems.
- Experience with AutoCAD, UniGraphics, Power BI, and Microsoft Office is an added plus.
- Ability to analyze complex problems, build data-based solutions, and improve process efficiency.
- Strong capability to manage several priorities, deliver on deadlines, and perform well in a changing environment.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills for working with teams, leadership, and cross-functional departments.
- Willingness to travel to the US as needed, up to 20%.
