Role summary
This Waterford-based Operations Technician role sits within a busy operations function and reports to the Stability Lead. The position supports sample management and offers exposure to both operations and quality activities within a controlled storage environment that serves pharmaceutical and medical device customers. The work takes place in purpose-built facilities in Waterford and Belgium, which include walk-in rooms and reach-in cabinets for storage under controlled temperature and humidity conditions, from ultra-low freezers at -80°C to environments above 50°C.
What you will do
- Accept customer deliveries, inspect them for issues, and ensure they are stored safely, accurately, and on time according to customer instructions, regulatory expectations, and quality procedures.
- Handle the collection, packing, and return of samples to customers.
- Keep the facility tidy and ensure equipment and maintenance activities are maintained according to the Quality Management System.
- Carry out daily checks on stability cabinets and room conditions.
- Support the team with extra operational tasks and secondary duties when workload increases.
- Provide general administrative assistance and other job-related support as needed.
- Communicate clearly across the business, especially on work matters and safety requirements.
- Contribute to quality activities by ensuring work follows QMS and cGMP expectations.
- Review completed records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with specifications.
- Prepare and manage quality reports related to deviations.
- Support safety and quality initiatives while maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
Experience and skills needed
The role calls for a detail-focused, dependable person who works well both independently and as part of a team. You should be comfortable working to deadlines in a fast-moving environment, be highly organised, and bring a strong sense of ownership to your work. The ideal candidate will also be numerate, computer literate, and able to use Microsoft Word and Excel to prepare graphs and reports.
Required background includes at least 2 years of experience in a temperature-controlled storage setting, such as retail or warehouse operations, or in a regulated manufacturing or pharmacy environment. Experience with standard operating procedures in a regulated setting is preferred but not mandatory. Prior work in picking and packing, using an inventory management system, and preparing quality documentation or reports will be valuable. Experience with electric pallet trucks or forklifts would be an advantage.
Working pattern and job details
This is a permanent, full-time role. Standard hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with some expectation to work outside these hours when needed. Travel is 0%.
Physical requirements
The position may involve frequent standing, walking, and sitting, as well as handling, reaching, speaking, and hearing. Occasional climbing or balancing may be needed. The role can include lifting or moving up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision.
Work environment and protective equipment
The role may occasionally involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, and vibration. The work setting is generally quiet. Access to laboratory, manufacturing, or clinical areas may be required for inspections or discussions. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn, which may include safety eyewear, respirators or breathing apparatus, lab coats, and gloves.
