Role overviewA.P. Moller - Maersk is hiring a competent Ordinary Seaman for its technologically advanced container vessels. The role is suited to seafarers who already have relevant sea-going exposure and are open to further training, new challenges, and developing their skills onboard ships equipped with modern machinery.This is an important position within one of the world’s largest container shipping operations, offering the chance to contribute to vessel efficiency, improve procedures, and work in an environment that encourages greater responsibility and development.Key responsibilitiesSupport the Officer of the Watch during bridge watch duties to help navigate the vessel safely and in a proper seamanship manner.Complete deck maintenance and housekeeping tasks assigned by the Chief Officer, working under the Bosun’s supervision, including upkeep of relevant accommodation areas when instructed.Assist, under the direction of the Chief Officer, OOW, or Bosun, in keeping cargo secure.Confirm that a Permit to Work has been properly completed and that a risk assessment has been done before starting any task.During gangway watches, help the OOW and Ship Security Officer ensure the vessel complies with the Ship Security Plan.While on port watch, support safe mooring of the vessel throughout cargo operations and tide changes, as directed by the OOW.Carry out deck-side maintenance and general upkeep as assigned by the Chief Officer and supervised by the Bosun.Follow ongoing work-and-rest hour planning requirements and raise any fatigue-related compliance issues with the Chief Officer or Master.Assist, under appropriate supervision, with cargo loading and unloading activities normally handled by ship crew members.Experience requiredThe candidate must have at least 12 months of deck service on foreign-going ships.Equal opportunity and supportMaersk states that it is committed to a diverse, inclusive, and equal-opportunity workplace.
