Research And Development Engineer

Job Summary

This position is responsible for leading research and development, product formulation, and technical/customer support for Dry Mortar Operations (DMO). The role focuses on developing innovative and value-added products while coordinating with external toll manufacturing partners to maintain consistent quality and dependable supply.

Formulation and Product Development

• Design and refine at least four products each month for the HOLCIM Tector range.
• Make sure all formulations comply with Holcim Group and Holcim Innovation Center (HIC) requirements.
• Work with the Ready-Mix technical team to create admixture formulations that meet specific project needs.

Toll Manufacturing and Vendor Coordination

• Work closely with third-party providers involved in toll manufacturing.
• Oversee blending-site operations to confirm that Holcim quality standards are followed without exception.
• Plan production timelines with service providers so delivery and operational targets are achieved on time.
• Keep complete and accurate quality records for all products manufactured through toll partners.

Technical Support and Reporting

• Deliver technical assistance to the DMO function and help resolve site-related issues.
• Share progress updates and R&D milestones with the Technical and Innovation Manager.
• Keep the Commercial Growth and Margin Manager informed of product progress and margin-improvement opportunities.

Compliance and Documentation

• Prepare and check material submittals and technical replies needed for project approval.
• Arrange third-party testing to confirm the physical performance of newly developed products.
• Maintain a well-structured repository of formulas, raw material data, technical data sheets (TDS), safety data sheets (SDS), certificates of origin, certificates of analysis (COA), and related records.

Supply Chain and Operations Support

• Partner with procurement to secure raw materials and identify alternate suppliers to support formula consistency and business continuity.
• Follow internal compliance standards and control procedures.
• Contribute to workplace safety and participate in all H&SE initiatives and activities.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

A recognised graduate qualification in Chemical Engineering or a relevant postgraduate diploma in Chemistry is required. The preferred background includes 5 to 7 years of experience, ideally within the GCC region, in dry mortar or construction chemicals.

Skills and Attributes

The role calls for strong communication, analytical reporting, and organisational skills, along with the ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision. Candidates should also have hands-on experience in recipe development and refinement for dry mortars and concrete admixtures, practical knowledge of international standards and Holcim quality specifications, and the capability to conduct trials, mock-ups, case studies, and real-world troubleshooting. A high level of integrity and adherence to policy are also essential.
