Shift Lead

Role overview

This Shift Lead position is based in Cork, County Cork, Ireland, with full-time, onsite working. The role is focused on leading the store’s fill operation so the sales floor is ready for trade, while also taking operational control of resource planning across Serve, Sell, and Fill. In the absence of the Colleague Manager, the Shift Lead acts as the floor lead.

Key responsibilities

• Direct the fill operation and make sure the store is prepared to open for trading.
• Take responsibility for coordinating labour and resources across Serve, Sell, and Fill activities.
• Lead colleagues during fill, coaching them on One Best Way and improving productivity before store opening.
• Assign staff effectively to support a fast and efficient checkout/payment experience.
• Ensure daily operational routines are carried out correctly and at the right time in the assigned area.
• Work with the team to maintain a store that is clean, safe, and well presented.
• Help build a positive, inclusive team culture where everyone feels part of the workplace.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service standards at all times.
• Set the example for M&S behaviours and colleague expectations throughout the store.
• Support Colleague Managers by sharing observations that help improve performance and recognise strong contributors.
• Provide support to nearby stores when operational needs require it.
• Act as a key holder and respond to call-outs when needed.
• Handle opening and closing duties, including vehicle receipt, temperature checks, logging operational issues with the relevant helpdesks, cash handling, and TSL compliance during peripheral hours.

Additional information

A shift premium applies to any hours worked before 8:00 am.

The role includes responsibility for opening and closing the building and managing operational tasks during peripheral hours.

This is an onsite retail operations role that requires strong coordination, attention to detail, and the ability to lead teams during early-morning fill periods and other key trading hours.
