About the role
Amentum is hiring a Ship Load Planner to support a specialized U.S. Navy program located on Diego Garcia. The position is part of a global organization that delivers advanced engineering, technical, and professional services to the U.S. government, allied partners, and critical infrastructure sectors.
What you will do
- Create precise cargo and container stowage plans that improve vessel loading and unloading while staying within operational limits and safety rules.
- Work closely with shipping agents, port officials, stevedores, and logistics teams to keep cargo moving on schedule.
- Collaborate with vessel masters and marine terminals to define stowage needs and maintain vessel stability, safety, and seaworthiness.
- Review freight manifests and confirm cargo sizes, weights, and special handling needs before placing items into the load plan.
- Use ship loading software to build and update stowage instructions and loading plans that make the best use of vessel space.
- Carry out inspections to check that loading follows the approved plan and that safety standards for equipment and personnel are met.
- Respond quickly to loading issues and adjust plans when unexpected situations affect vessel operations.
- Maintain detailed operational records covering cargo handling, load plans, material differences, and feedback from the field.
- Follow all safety, local, government, and international shipping rules throughout cargo-handling activities.
- Support strong teamwork and clear communication among everyone involved in shipping and pier operations.
Minimum qualifications
- 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in ship load planning, maritime logistics, materials handling, or vessel operations.
- High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- A valid passport is required, along with the ability to travel internationally.
- The passport must have at least one year of validity remaining at the time of hiring.
- Comfort using ship stowage planning software.
- Ability to pass contract medical screening and continue meeting those requirements throughout deployment.
- Ability to obtain and keep facility credentials or authorization.
Preferred background
- Experience working in austere OCONUS environments with a multinational workforce.
- A valid country driver’s license and passport.
- Any required country visa in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Experience in ship loading, cargo coordination, or maritime logistics.
- Understanding of international standards, including IMO and ISPS Code requirements.
- Strong analytical ability and problem-solving skills to anticipate and fix loading or stowage issues.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ship planning tools such as CASP, MACS3, or similar systems.
