Role Overview
The Driver will be responsible for safely and efficiently transporting people, goods, and documents for Save the Children's operations in Uganda. This role may also involve supporting emergency response efforts during humanitarian crises.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate Save the Children vehicles for the collection and delivery of personnel, documents, and goods to designated locations, adhering strictly to organizational policies and traffic laws.
- Maintain vehicles in optimal mechanical condition and ensure their security at all times, following established procedures.
- Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections, including checking essential fluids, belts, and brakes, and report any necessary maintenance or service needs to management.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date mileage logs and submit them monthly, along with vehicle log sheets and Profleet reports in Excel format.
- Ensure that vehicle road licenses and insurance are current and renewed promptly in compliance with national regulations and organizational policies.
- Verify that all vehicle tools and safety equipment, such as spare tires, jacks, first aid kits, and fire extinguishers, are present and in good working order.
- Promptly report any vehicle damage or defects to the supervisor, adhering to policy and traffic regulations.
- Assist staff and visitors with transportation needs and offer support in resolving minor vehicle-related issues during daily operations.
- Conduct oneself professionally and ethically to uphold the reputation of Save the Children and its humanitarian mission.
- Adhere to all traffic instructions and regulations, and advise on potential breaches of traffic laws when necessary.
- Comply with Save the Children's Child Protection Code of Conduct, Security Guidelines, Chronic Illness Policy, and ethical principles.
Additional Responsibilities
- The role may require undertaking additional duties as assigned, commensurate with the driver's skills and experience.
- Demonstrate patience, strong organizational skills, and effective time management while multitasking.
- Foster positive working relationships and contribute effectively as a team member.
- Be willing to travel to remote areas and work under challenging conditions, including extended hours during humanitarian responses.
- Possess computer literacy and strong documentation skills.
- Exhibit high cultural awareness and the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds in an international setting.
- Possess excellent time management and planning capabilities.
