Role overview

Air New Zealand is hiring Finance Specialists to join its Finance function in Auckland. These roles sit within a large, commercially focused organisation with opportunities across several finance portfolios, including business partnering, external reporting, forecasting, controls, and performance analysis. Depending on team placement, the position may be based at the Auckland Airport Campus or the City Hub.

The role suits someone who enjoys working with data, financial information, business stakeholders, and performance insights. You may support a dedicated portfolio, work in cross-functional teams, or contribute to the external reporting stream. What the role involves

As a Finance Specialist, you will produce accurate, timely, and useful financial analysis and reporting that helps leaders make better decisions. Your work will support performance management, process improvement, and stronger financial control across the business.

Depending on your placement, the role may include forecasting, management reporting, variance analysis, statutory reporting, balance sheet control, audit support, fixed asset accounting, and broader process enhancement work.

Key responsibilities

• Create and maintain financial models, reporting packs, and analytical tools that support decision-making.
• Prepare month-end results, budgets, and forecasts, then analyse the outcomes.
• Explain performance differences through clear variance analysis and practical insights.
• Translate financial data into concise, usable information for stakeholders.
• Support finance business partners and portfolio teams with reporting and forecasting tasks.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders.
• Spot opportunities to strengthen reporting quality, processes, and controls.
• Assist with balance sheet reconciliations and control activities.
• Contribute to statutory reporting deliverables and audit support work.
• Help monitor and report on capital expenditure and other investment activity.
• Work alongside project managers and other stakeholders on finance-related matters.
• Support wider Finance priorities and collaborate across teams as needed.

What we are looking for

We are seeking finance professionals who combine strong technical ability with curiosity, clear communication, and a mindset geared toward continuous improvement.

• About 3 to 5 years of experience in a finance, accounting, commercial, or analytical role.
• Strong reporting and analysis capability, including the ability to interpret trends, explain differences, and convert data into insight.
• Advanced spreadsheet skills, especially in Excel, with the ability to build, maintain, and document reliable models and reports.
• Interest in technology, data, and emerging tools, plus a willingness to explore AI-enabled ways of working.
• Experience with, or interest in learning, tools such as Power BI, Power Pivot, and similar analytics platforms.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with a range of stakeholders.
• Careful attention to detail, sound judgement, and the ability to juggle competing priorities.
• A proactive attitude and the confidence to question existing approaches and suggest improvements.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, commerce, or a related field.
• CA qualification, or progress toward CA, would be an advantage, especially for roles with accounting, reporting, or controls responsibilities.
