What the job involves

The janitor will handle general cleaning and preservation tasks throughout assigned indoor areas. Duties may vary by location and client requirements, so flexibility is important.

Key duties

• Collect waste from containers, clear paper and trash from the premises, and wipe down bins as needed.
• Empty ashtrays, check sand urns, and replenish sand when necessary.
• Remove dust from picture frames, charts, graphs, and wall décor.
• Clean ceiling fixtures, air conditioning diffusers, partition grilles, registers, and other ventilation openings.
• Vacuum mats and carpeted sections in offices, lobbies, and hallways.
• Dust and clean office furniture, files, fixtures, paneling, window sills, and other flat surfaces.
• Polish metal hardware, fixtures, and other brightwork.
• Maintain tile floors as required by cleaning and polishing them properly.
• Wipe and shine glass furniture and other glass surfaces.
• Clean glass on entry doors from both the inside and outside.
• Remove marks and stains from doors, frames, light-switch areas, private entry glass, and dividers.
• Wash, clean, and sanitize drinking water coolers.
• Sweep stairways and vacuum them if they are carpeted.
• Sweep and mop building floors.
• Clean, sanitize, and replenish bathroom supplies.

Requirements

• Ability to understand and follow both written instructions and verbal directions.
• At least 6 months of experience in a janitorial or similar cleaning role.
