Role overview
The Lab Assistant supports housekeeping and operational tasks within the IVF laboratory to help maintain an efficient workflow and uphold high standards in laboratory procedures. This role also helps coordinate information and procedures with other team members involved in IVF lab operations.
Key duties
- Enter daily IVF and/or andrology worksheet data into the electronic medical record system.
- Prepare paperwork required for procedures scheduled for the following day.
- Carry out daily cleaning of the IVF lab and remove regular waste as well as biohazard trash.
- Set up disposable materials used during laboratory procedures.
- Work with the Laboratory Director to coordinate tasks and use resources effectively.
- Partner with the IVF Laboratory Director and broader IVF team to identify process improvements and evolving best practices.
- Arrange packaging and shipment of genetic samples to outside laboratories when needed.
- Coordinate ordering, receiving, and scheduling of media and plasticware for IVF, andrology, endocrinology, and satellite laboratories.
- Maintain inventory of materials used across the SPRING laboratories.
- Communicate daily lab flow updates to other departments through the EMR, email, or chat as needed.
Education and experience
A Bachelor of Science degree is required, ideally with a background in biological or chemistry sciences and a preferred specialization in reproductive biology. Candidates should also have at least 2 years of experience in fertility or healthcare.
Additional requirements
Strong written and spoken English is needed. The role also calls for familiarity with medical terminology, billing practices, electronic medical records, and Microsoft Office. Applicants should bring excellent communication and organizational abilities, along with the capacity to explain complex ideas in a patient-friendly way. Flexible availability is important, including some weekends and holidays.
Compensation and schedule
This is a full-time, non-exempt, onsite position based on a 40-hour workweek, typically 8 hours per day. The annual base salary range is $45,000 to $55,000, with pay determined by relevant knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, and degrees.
