Role overview

You will join a cross-functional engineering group that includes Frontend, Backend, SRE, and QA. Teams are organized around specific business areas, and the exact team assignment will be decided during interviews based on business needs and your preferences.

In this role, you will build tools, APIs, and integrations for one of the company’s products. The backend stack uses Elixir and Phoenix with Postgres, while the frontend uses React and Next.js. GitLab serves as the version control system, issue tracker, and CI/CD platform, and the applications run on AWS. Deployments are fully automated through CI and happen multiple times a day.

Key responsibilities

• Own major team-level projects and contribute to cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products.
• Participate in product discussions, share technical recommendations, and propose improvements.
• Build a deep understanding of the team’s product and engineering domain.
• Review code and provide constructive feedback to peers.
• Contribute to the shared codebase and help resolve technical and business issues.
• Take part in support rotations, hiring activities, RFC discussions, and other non-team work.
• Mentor other engineers and help guide their development.
• Investigate, suggest, and implement platform improvements.
• Design interfaces with performance, accessibility, and API quality in mind.
• Help reshape delivery so autonomous agents become the default execution layer for engineering work.
• Design and roll out agentic workflows end to end, from specification and planning to execution and verification.
• Create reusable agentic workflows and primitives that other teams can apply across domains.
• Use test, evaluation, guardrail, and verification loops to keep output secure, reliable, and scalable.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering foundations with a history of shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Hands-on experience building or adopting agentic or automation workflows, or similar systems, and improving them over time.
• Ability to think in systems: writing clear specifications, breaking down plans, setting up verification, and closing the quality loop.
• Experience with Postgres or a similar database.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins, or equivalent systems.
• Comfort working with automation and AI capabilities, with practical AI fluency.

Nice to have

• Kubernetes experience.
• Docker experience.
• AWS experience.

• Exposure to React, Vue, or Angular.

Working style and practical details

This is a remote position, with the location listed as anywhere in the world. The reporting line is to the Engineering Team Leader, and the team is Engineering. The expected start date is as soon as possible.

Compensation

The annual base salary for this full-time role is USD 53,300 to USD 119,850. Pay is reviewed through a global compensation approach that accounts for location, level, role, transferable skills, experience, training, business needs, and market demand. The company uses geographic pay ranges and may adjust compensation over time.
