Role overview

This position is for a Staff Engineer - Software (AI) who will own the software system architecture for AI initiatives and lead the development of advanced AI solutions within the project team. The role calls for selecting practical technologies that balance cost, quality, and performance, while staying aligned with product expectations. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to design, build, and deliver AI-enabled software through strong technical execution, teamwork, and clear communication.

Key responsibilities

• Define the core architecture of the AI application platform, including the technical roadmap and governance for the software ecosystem.
• Build efficient API designs, microservices, and orchestration layers that connect backend AI capabilities with client-facing applications.
• Evaluate and manage trade-offs across scalability, operating cost, runtime performance, and long-term maintainability.
• Drive integration, deployment, and optimisation of AI applications in highly available production environments.
• Reduce end-to-end inference latency and improve how effectively hardware resources are used.
• Create observability, fault handling, and fallback mechanisms to support enterprise-grade reliability.
• Act as a technical decision-maker across teams, helping remove architectural blockers and complex system dependencies.
• Work with product and engineering stakeholders to turn requirements into scalable software specifications.
• Promote modern engineering practices through strong design patterns, structural reviews, and automated testing.
• Develop logging, tracing, and data pipeline solutions to support monitoring and data governance.
• Coach engineering teams and raise overall code quality and technical capability.
• Incorporate newer AI approaches such as LLM orchestration, multi-agent workflows, and intelligent inference routing.

Candidate requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science is required.
• At least 6 years of relevant experience in a similar position, including practical application software design and development.
• At least 3 years of experience in a technical leadership capacity.
• At least 2 years of experience deploying AI models into real-world use cases.
• Demonstrated experience working in modern Agile software development environments.
• Working knowledge of using or orchestrating NLP or computer vision features at the application layer.
• Strong programming ability in Python or C/C++, along with a solid understanding of asynchronous communication and microservices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, with the skill to convert product needs into clear, scalable software specifications.
• Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
• Strong written and spoken English skills; fluency in Chinese is an advantage when working with Chinese-speaking stakeholders.
• Applicants must have the legal right to work in Singapore without visa sponsorship.
