Role overview

This position is for a Store Delivery Driver at B&Q in Colchester Tollgate. It is a permanent full-time contract with 36.75 hours each week. Working patterns can fall between Monday and Sunday, from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. The role offers a UK national hourly pay rate of £13.85. Please note that the job involves heavy lifting because of the nature of the work.

About the role

As a Store Delivery Driver, you will help ensure customers receive their orders safely, in good condition, and on schedule. B&Q supports customers in improving their homes, and this role plays an important part in delivering that service promise. You will be driving 3.5-ton vans and completing local multi-drop deliveries to customers’ homes. Orders can range from small items such as paint tins to bulky products like flooring packs, so you should be comfortable handling physically demanding loads.

When you are not out on deliveries, you will work on the shopfloor using technology to process customer orders and assist colleagues where needed. The role requires a strong focus on efficiency, safety, and customer service, while representing the B&Q brand in a professional and customer-first manner.

What you need

You should be an effective communicator who can stay calm, plan well, and make practical decisions even during busy periods. Good organisation and analytical thinking will help you succeed, and you should be able to keep processes straightforward.

B&Q will provide the 3.5-ton van, training, and the equipment needed for the role. You must hold a manual UK driving licence, Category B/B1, allowing you to drive vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. This licence must have been held for at least 12 months and must not carry more than 6 penalty points.

Experience in multi-drop delivery driving is helpful but not essential. You also need to be flexible enough to work on a rota that includes weekends, evenings, and bank holidays.

Checks and compliance

For safety and customer assurance, successful candidates will undergo Experian and DVLA checks to confirm the information provided. A DBS check will also be carried out. If anything does not match, it will be discussed with you directly.
