Role overview

This role is responsible for supporting the business unit by applying accounting principles to monitor and interpret financial information, keep transaction records accurate, and deliver dependable accounting data that helps guide business decisions.

Key responsibilities

  • Spot possible risks early, control them, and escalate issues that may drive costs higher.
  • Review financial transactions and statements against budget and forecast figures, identify problem areas, and report findings to the CEO.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation and industry practices, and provide proactive guidance and practical solutions to stakeholders.
  • Regularly check accounting packs to ensure consistent treatment in line with GAAP.
  • Set up, benchmark, and refine key processes within the assigned area, such as costing models, general ledger returns, and VAT workflows.
  • Follow governance requirements related to legal and audit standards.
  • Ensure accounting journal entries are posted to the general ledger correctly.
  • Strengthen business decisions by providing accurate business intelligence and analysing trends and data.
  • Carry out risk assessments through detailed analysis, then implement and measure effective corrective actions.
  • Take ownership of personal development to build competence and capability.
  • Build and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external partners on a daily basis.
  • Support the group in preparing annual financial statements by ensuring the Hyperion Financial Management system is correctly updated and all required validations are cleared.
  • Handle month-end and year-end reporting, including reporting packs and supporting schedules.
  • Review general ledger reconciliations and ensure corrections are made promptly.

Qualifications and experience

  • Part qualification from a recognised international body such as BICA, ACCA, or CIMA.
  • Relevant business degree with accounting and/or finance as majors.
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting; experience in controls or auditing will be an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal ability to influence others, drive change, and support performance in a cross-functional setting.
  • Ability to perform effectively in an uncertain environment and work across multiple teams toward shared business goals.
