About the Role
Medicat is seeking an experienced AI Engineer to join our team and play a pivotal role in designing and implementing AI-native capabilities within our MedicatOne (M1) platform. This is a high-impact, individual contributor role focused on building production-grade AI functionalities for a growing healthcare SaaS platform. You will collaborate closely with product leadership and engineering to architect and deploy AI-powered systems that interact with structured healthcare data and operational workflows. This hands-on role requires strong technical execution, fluency in data analytics, and a solid understanding of healthcare informatics concepts. You will be instrumental in translating AI opportunities into tangible product features, accelerating engineering performance, and driving AI-enabled innovation across Medicat's workflows and SaaS product.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement AI-powered capabilities within the MedicatOne platform.
- Integrate modern AI models and services into production workflows.
- Develop systems that interact with structured application data and APIs.
- Ensure AI features are reliable, performant, and secure.
- Work with large datasets related to healthcare operations.
- Design systems that leverage structured data effectively.
- Build logic for intelligent interpretation of operational data.
- Collaborate with engineering on data pipelines, schemas, and analytics frameworks.
- Integrate AI capabilities into existing SaaS architecture.
- Work with backend engineers to ensure scalable system design.
- Optimize performance of data-intensive AI workflows.
- Contribute to platform-level architecture decisions.
- Ship production-ready AI features quickly and iteratively.
- Collaborate closely with leadership on prioritization and implementation.
- Help establish best practices for AI development within the organization.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in building production SaaS systems.
- Direct experience in building and implementing AI/ML or LLM-based features.
- Strong experience working with structured data and analytics systems.
- Experience working with healthcare data or healthcare SaaS environments is preferred, including familiarity with regulatory, privacy, and compliance considerations (HIPAA, PHI handling, de-identification).
- Demonstrated ability to build and deploy systems end-to-end.
- Comfort working with modern AI infrastructure and patterns, including LLM API integration (OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar) in production environments.
- Proficiency in Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), including designing retrieval pipelines, chunking strategies, and grounding LLM responses.
- Experience with vector databases for embedding, indexing, and querying unstructured or semi-structured data.
- Solid understanding of data modeling and SQL.
- Experience with data pipelines, analytics workflows, and working with large structured datasets.
- Proficiency in API design and backend services.
- Experience with healthcare informatics standards or healthcare data environments is strongly preferred.
