Assistant Store Manager

Overview

Mountain Warehouse is hiring an Assistant Store Manager for a new store opening in Papamoa, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. This role is based in the New Zealand Retail department and supports the store management team in building a strong store culture, running day-to-day operations, and delivering an excellent shopping experience.

The position is suited to someone who enjoys retail leadership, team development, and customer-facing work. You will work closely with the Store Manager to guide the team, maintain standards, and help the store reach its sales and service goals.

Leadership and Team Development

• Work alongside the Store Manager to lead a motivated, committed, and high-performing team.
• Create a supportive workplace where collaboration, trust, and shared goals are encouraged.
• Help deliver training and development so team members can strengthen their skills and progress in their roles.
• Communicate openly and clearly to keep everyone aligned and informed.
• Ensure the team has strong product knowledge so customers receive great service.

Store Operations

• Support the smooth running of the store on a daily basis while following company policies and procedures.
• Maintain strong visual merchandising and housekeeping standards to improve the customer experience.
• Keep health and safety a priority by carrying out regular risk checks and helping maintain a safe environment for staff and shoppers.
• Assist with hiring and retaining good talent to strengthen the team.

Sales and Store Performance

• Help the store achieve and exceed sales targets through effective planning and execution.
• Track performance measures and use them to support store success.
• Monitor inventory levels and help ensure replenishment and deliveries are handled accurately.
• Support loss prevention efforts to protect store profitability.

Customer Experience

• Set the example for excellent customer service at all times.
• Respond to customer concerns quickly and professionally to support satisfaction and loyalty.
• Represent the brand with a positive attitude, professionalism, and enthusiasm.
• Build connections within the local community to create a welcoming and friendly store environment.
