Company overview

The Wonderful Company is expanding its presence in Fiji and is looking to grow its agriculture-related investments, including citrus, papaya, and beekeeping education.

Role summary

This role calls for an experienced beekeeper who can work with a high degree of independence and apply sound judgement when deciding on procedures for different field situations. The position involves overseeing hives at model farms, checking colony condition, logging findings, and keeping beekeeping operations on track. You will also support local beekeepers with technical guidance. Travel between sites will be part of the job.

Key duties

Work alongside internal subject matter experts to help guide implementation.
Set up and run two model farms, define targets, monitor activity progress, and estimate completion timelines for hive expansion and honey output.
Carry out routine beekeeping work such as assessing hive health, examining colonies for pests and disease, and recording issues for follow-up.
Spot queenless colonies and distinguish between virgin and mated queens.
Confirm that colonies have adequate food stores.
Handle honey harvesting, extraction, and processing.
Support nearby beekeepers with advice and troubleshooting.
Identify local forage sources that can improve honey production.
Work with suppliers, contractors, and vendors to secure hive equipment and other inputs.
Prepare and manage budgets, then review and explain cost differences against plan.
Help the organisation achieve short- and long-term objectives through planning, execution, resource coordination, and cost discipline.
Maintain compliance with legal requirements, including occupational health and safety and environmental standards.
Liaise with regulators, industry bodies, and community stakeholders while representing the company on beekeeping matters.
Contribute to wider organisational programmes, including philanthropic work, 7S initiatives, and COVID-related initiatives.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will bring at least 5 years of experience managing more than 20 hives and a proven track record of setting up a beekeeping operation. Strong commercial judgement is important, including the ability to weigh risk against cost and deliver solid results. You should be comfortable using farm management systems, budgeting tools, and Microsoft Office applications. The role also calls for strong verbal and written communication, negotiation and analytical ability, project and time management skills, and solid organisation. A self-driven approach, willingness to keep learning, high integrity, problem-solving ability, creativity, and a strong understanding of modern beekeeping practices are essential.
