Role overview
Higgins and Fletcher Major Projects’ New Business Team is seeking an experienced Bid Writer to join the team in Penrose, Auckland. This role is suited to someone who is already highly capable in bid development and comfortable working on complex, high-value submissions.
You will transform technical and commercial details into concise, persuasive and well-organised bid documents that are clear for clients to navigate. The position spans multiple sectors and involves close collaboration with project teams, estimators and subject matter experts to develop response strategy and content that accurately reflects how projects are delivered.
The work is centred on capital works and includes wind farms, solar parks, roads and interchanges, land development, water infrastructure and airport tenders. The role calls for strong critical thinking and the ability to apply writing expertise to support the business in winning new work.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out early-stage research and analysis to identify strong value propositions and competitive strengths.
- Partner with subject matter experts and bid teams to build storyboards and define win themes.
- Craft compelling narratives that engage evaluators while still satisfying all tender requirements.
- Work with Bid, Submission and Creative Managers to improve submission quality and raise best-practice standards.
- Edit and review material carefully to ensure accuracy, clarity and compliance with submission standards.
- Help manage timelines, document control and submission coordination from start to finish.
What you need to bring
- A tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, engineering, construction or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Background in bid writing, structured business writing or business analysis, preferably in professional services, engineering or construction.
- Ability to work confidently with complex technical information and translate it into plain, accessible language.
- Strong people skills and the confidence to gather relevant information from a range of stakeholders.
- Excellent attention to detail and a proven ability to work to deadlines.
Benefits and offer
- A collaborative team environment rather than an isolated, individual-only role.
- Office-based work in Penrose, with free staff parking and an on-site café.
- Employer KiwiSaver contribution matched up to 4%.
- Access to in-house technical training and leadership development programmes.
- Career pathways across Higgins, Fletcher Construction and VINCI Construction.
- Retail discounts available for you and your family.
