BIM Coordinator

Role Overview

This position sits within a major airport program in Riyadh and reports to the BIM/GIS Manager. The coordinator will help establish and run BIM processes that support project delivery, with responsibility for cross-functional collaboration, BIM/CAD model governance, compliance with the project BIM Management Plan, 4D/5D workflows, and an innovative project environment.

Project Background

The employer has a long history of delivering large-scale infrastructure work worldwide and is supporting the development of a state-of-the-art international airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The program includes consultancy services covering technical, commercial, and construction management for several new terminals, including a low-cost carrier terminal, an iconic terminal, and a private aviation terminal with hangars. The airport is planned to serve up to 120 million passengers by 2030 and 185 million by 2050, with cargo capacity reaching 3.5 million tons by 2050.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate BIM activities across design subcontractors, including shared coordinate systems, standard templates, clash handling, and design review expectations.
• Support project teams with BIM production and oversee the Common Data Environment, model federation, interference management, and quality control of 3D and 2D deliverables.
• Create, improve, communicate, and embed common BIM workflows for design, construction, and project management stakeholders.
• Strengthen and maintain standard methods for BIM and 3D model health checks against project requirements.
• Manage project Exchange Information Requirements and ensure proper flow-down to the supply chain.
• Train delivery teams on the CDE and related BIM workflows so that project processes and outputs are delivered effectively.
• Develop interoperable workflows between BIM/CAD and GIS to support construction, safety, sustainability, and permitting activities.
• Review BEP implementation regularly, check alignment with the project execution strategy, document lessons learned, and identify process improvements.
• Provide operational guidance to BIM coordinators working for external consultants, design firms, and subcontractors.
• Take part in off-project BIM forums for training, knowledge sharing, management support, and lessons learned activities.
• Build workflows that connect BIM/3D models with schedules to produce 4D construction simulations.
• Create processes that integrate BIM/3D models with quantity take-off templates for progress tracking and forecasting.
• Ensure project information requirements and industry standards, including ISO 19650, are met.

Experience and Qualifications

The role calls for a bachelor’s degree, an international equivalent, or relevant professional experience, along with at least 5 years in a BIM-related position. Candidates should have worked with multidisciplinary teams in a project delivery setting and be able to communicate BIM and technology solutions clearly to engineering and construction professionals, including during meetings and client-facing presentations.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Ability to capture lessons learned and turn them into improved workflows.
• Experience creating and maintaining federated models across a project lifecycle.
• Capability to coordinate single-discipline and multi-discipline design work to good practice standards.
• Skill in clash detection, coordination review, and reporting on model issues.
• Experience auditing models and working with client BIM leads on model quality and structure.
• Ability to support design and construction reviews while managing issue and action logs.
• Willingness to visit job sites to support BIM discussions and implementation.
• Knowledge of model-based quantity take-offs, construction quantity reporting, and forecasting workflows.
