Role overview
Higgins is seeking a Bitumen Plant Operator to become part of the plant team in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. This is a practical, hands-on position focused on producing bitumen emulsion and Polybitumen for road construction and maintenance work. Prior experience operating a plant is not essential, as full training will be provided.
What you will do
- Run and observe the bitumen plant so daily output targets are achieved.
- Carry out pre-start inspections and confirm the equipment is safe and ready to operate.
- Produce bitumen products according to the required formulations and specifications.
- Support maintenance activities, routine servicing, and simple fault-finding on plant equipment.
- Manage raw materials safely, including unloading deliveries and storing materials correctly.
- Maintain production documentation, take samples, and complete quality control checks.
What you should bring
- A valid Class 1 driver licence.
- Experience in manufacturing or plant maintenance is an advantage.
- Comfort using computer systems, as the equipment is controlled through a computer-based operating system.
- Careful attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures accurately.
- A strong safety focus and confidence working around hazardous substances.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
