Role overview
Brisbane City Council is seeking bus drivers who want a dependable career with room to learn, develop and contribute to the city every day. This position is focused on keeping Brisbane connected by safely moving passengers across one of Australia’s largest and most varied bus networks.
The job suits people who enjoy being out on the road rather than in an office, value independence, and still want the backing of a collaborative depot environment. Support is provided through the Network Coordination Centre and teams based at Carina, Garden City, Toowong, Sherwood, Willawong, Virginia and Eagle Farm.
The organisation is committed to making bus driving a rewarding and accessible career through paid training, continuous support and long-term growth opportunities in a community-focused essential service. Whether you are changing careers, returning to work or looking for stability, support is available from the beginning.
Compensation
- Casual rate: AUD $43.81, which includes 25% casual loading plus superannuation.
- Temporary full-time traineeship for 2 years: AUD $1,332 gross per week plus superannuation.
- Penalties, overtime and allowances are paid on top of the base rates above.
What the role involves
- Move passengers across Brisbane safely, courteously and professionally.
- Provide dependable, welcoming customer service.
- Work with a high level of independence while staying connected to depot and coordination support teams.
- Help maintain a workplace that is positive, safe and inclusive.
Training and support
Paid training is provided, and a bus licence is not required to begin. The council will support successful candidates through the licences and qualifications needed for the role.
Team members are supported by colleagues and leaders who are focused on helping them succeed, and the role also offers pathways into depot operations, training and leadership positions.
Eligibility requirements
- You must have Australian work rights.
- You need to have held an Australian C class licence for at least three years.
- You must be able to obtain Driver Authorisation (GENR class).
- You must be able to obtain an HR licence; training will be provided.
- Your driving record must be clean, meaning no more than six demerit points in the last three years and no suspended licence or good behaviour period in the last four years, excluding SPER.
- You must be available Monday to Friday for the 8-week training program.
