Role Summary

The Buyer position is a full-time, on-site opportunity in the Rochester, New York Metropolitan Area. The person in this role will source and purchase electronic components, mechanical parts, and other materials needed for circuit board and electro-mechanical assembly work. The job includes issuing purchase orders, coordinating with suppliers, tracking delivery timelines, and helping production stay supplied on time. The role also involves monitoring inventory, working with production and engineering teams to fix material-related issues, and following up on shortages or quality concerns with vendors. In addition, the Buyer will keep purchasing records current, maintain ERP or purchasing system data, and support efforts to reduce costs and improve processes.

Responsibilities

• Source and buy electronic components, mechanical parts, and related materials for manufacturing needs.
• Create and manage purchase orders in line with production requirements.
• Maintain relationships with suppliers and handle delivery follow-up.
• Monitor inventory levels and help prevent material shortages.
• Coordinate with production, engineering, and quality teams to solve material issues.
• Address supplier-related quality concerns and shortage situations.
• Keep purchasing records accurate and up to date.
• Update ERP or purchasing systems as part of daily work.
• Contribute to cost-saving and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Background in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain work within electronics, PCB, or electro-mechanical manufacturing.
• Ability to source suppliers, negotiate with vendors, and discuss pricing or contract terms.
• Hands-on experience with ERP or MRP systems, purchase order workflows, and spreadsheet-based analysis.
• Understanding of inventory management, lead times, and demand planning in a manufacturing setting.
• Capability to review bills of materials, part specifications, and other technical documents.
• Strong communication skills for working across production, engineering, and quality functions.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage time well under deadlines.
• Experience in contract manufacturing, electronics manufacturing, or a similar industrial environment is preferred.
• Associate's or bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
