About the role
Water Corporation is looking for a Catchment Ranger to support both daytime operations and after-hours response across catchment areas and surface water operation sites. This permanent role is based at the Kelmscott depot and involves operating, checking and maintaining dam structures and outlet works, along with carrying out surveillance to make sure business procedures and systems are followed.
What you will do
- Check and sample streams and reservoirs, and carry out monitoring across surface water and groundwater catchment areas.
- Observe land use and public recreation activity to help protect water quality.
- Follow catchment management schedules when completing routine surveillance of catchment areas.
- Take part in after-hours patrols and respond to emergencies such as bushfires, missing persons incidents and pollution events.
- Inspect mining, timber harvesting and permitted property activities to ensure they align with water quality protection requirements.
- Provide information and support as directed for corporate, professional and public stakeholders.
- Work with agencies such as Police, DBCA, Shires and Fisheries on joint patrols and contingency responses.
- Enforce bylaws under delegated authority from DWER.
Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will bring a Certificate III in the National Water Industry Package, or equivalent trade qualification, or relevant experience in surface water operations. You should have substantial experience in catchment management and operating surface water schemes, plus field-based industry experience and a strong background in customer service with the public. A current C class licence is required, along with the physical ability to complete surveillance and monitoring duties. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are also essential.
