Cleaning Operative

Role overview

ABM UK is hiring a permanent Cleaning Operative for Arena Shopping Park in Coventry. The shopping centre includes more than 35 retail stores and restaurants, and the main aim of the role is to keep the site clean, presentable, and welcoming for visitors. A strong customer-focused attitude is essential.

Working pattern and pay

You will work 37.5 hours each week across 5 days out of 7. The hourly rate is £13.32. The shift pattern may begin as early as 6:00 AM and, once a week, may finish as late as 9:00 PM.

Core duties

The role involves delivering a high standard of cleaning across client facilities inside and around the building. Typical tasks include:

• Dust mopping, damp mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and removing litter.
• Cleaning glass doors and windows, stainless-steel fixtures, bollards, and chewing gum removal.
• Operating a ride-on floor scrubber dryer to polish and clean floors.
• Cleaning and sanitising public washrooms, including sinks, mirrors, doors, walls, floors, and urinals.
• Emptying bins, collecting retailer waste, and compacting and arranging waste in the service yard.
• Picking litter in the outdoor car park area.
• Looking after cleaning equipment and replenishing supplies.
• Supporting team supervisors when required to help maintain service standards.
• Taking on reasonable additional tasks as needed.
• Following training provided by the supervisor or line manager.

Skills and experience

The successful candidate should bring strong communication and people skills, the ability to use initiative, and the confidence to prioritise tasks independently. You should be comfortable working on your own as well as alongside others, and you should present a polite, approachable manner.

Essential requirements

• Previous cleaning experience in both indoor and outdoor environments.
• Fluency in English.
• Flexibility to work the stated shift pattern.

Desirable experience

• Experience using cleaning equipment such as scrubber dryers, buffers, carpet cleaners, or road sweepers.
