This opportunity is for a Consumables Design Engineer based in the United States and posted on behalf of a partner employer that handles applications and the subsequent hiring steps. The role centers on creating and refining high-performance consumable parts for advanced molecular diagnostics equipment. You will contribute across the entire product journey, from early concept work through verification, validation, transfer to manufacturing, and launch. The work takes place in a multidisciplinary research and development setting, with close partnership across chemistry, systems, operations, quality, and supplier teams. A major part of the role is turning engineering ideas into reliable, compliant, and scalable healthcare solutions that improve global diagnostic performance.

What you will do

• Develop plastic consumables and related assemblies using CAD, engineering drawings, and simulation-based methods.
• Create prototypes and run verification and validation activities throughout the development cycle.
• Use design-for-manufacturing approaches to improve cost efficiency, scalability, and ease of assembly.
• Partner with R&D, quality, operations, and suppliers to move products from development into production.
• Maintain core technical records such as design history files, risk documents, and test summaries.
• Assist with the creation of tooling, fixtures, and test methods for both laboratory and manufacturing settings.
• Support adherence to medical device quality-system expectations and applicable regulatory requirements.

What the role requires

• A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Plastics Engineering, or a closely related discipline; a master’s degree is preferred or equivalent experience is acceptable.
• At least 1 year of experience in product design and development, or comparable experience gained through an advanced degree.
• Strong working knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks or a similar platform.
• Practical experience with plastic-part design, prototyping methods such as 3D printing and CNC, and the creation of engineering drawings.
• Understanding of design-for-manufacturing principles and experience working with suppliers.
• Ability to carry out verification testing and contribute to validation work.
• Strong analytical thinking, careful attention to detail, and the ability to juggle several priorities at once.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.

Compensation and benefits

The base salary range for this role is $93,000 to $128,000 per year, and the position is also eligible for bonus or incentive compensation.
