Descrizione del lavoro
About the role
As a Customer Delivery Driver, you will represent Tesco on the road and bring online grocery orders directly to customers’ homes around the Oban area. The job is customer-facing and goes beyond simply driving: you’ll be expected to provide helpful, friendly service and make each delivery a positive experience.
This is a practical, active role with plenty of variety. Shifts can differ from day to day, and while you’ll work independently for much of the time, support is always available from the store or centre team. The position suits people looking for flexibility, stability, or a change of career direction.
Availability window
Expected working availability for this role is:
- Sunday: 10:00 to 22:00
- Tuesday: 12:30 to 20:00
- Thursday: 13:30 to 21:00
- Saturday: 08:00 to 20:00
Your contracted hours will be scheduled within these windows, and shifts will be confirmed with 3 weeks’ notice. Tesco is also open to candidates whose availability is close to, though not exactly matching, the stated times.
Pay and hours
The pay rate starts at £14.18 per hour. For stores inside the M25, the hourly rate increases to £15.45. Depending on location, additional payments may apply.
New starters are normally offered at least 16 guaranteed hours per week. There may also be opportunities for people who want fewer hours, down to a minimum of 12 per week.
Responsibilities
- Keep the delivery van and trays clean, organised, and in good condition.
- Leave the yard area tidy and free from rubbish, including picking up litter when noticed.
- Complete tray washing as part of the standard tray wash process.
- Load the van as needed and check that it is roadworthy before setting off.
- Discuss order changes with customers, including substitutions and short-code items, and offer refunds for items they are unhappy with.
- Treat all products and deliveries with care, as if they were your own.
- Explain clearly that customers are not charged extra for substitutions.
- Complete deliveries within the customer’s booked time slot.
- Call the customer before arrival if you are running early.
- Contact the store or centre if you expect to be 30 minutes or more late.
What you need
- Ability to work well with colleagues and contribute to a strong team atmosphere.
- A friendly, respectful, and customer-focused approach.
- Comfort in adapting quickly to changing customer needs and store priorities.
- Energy, motivation, and a practical approach to balancing work and personal life.
- Willingness to share ideas with managers and team members to improve the customer experience.
- A valid UK, EU, or EEA driving licence, full or automatic only, held for at least 12 months.
- No more than 3 penalty points on the licence.
Benefits
- Holiday entitlement starting at 20 days plus 1 personal day, increasing to 22 days after 12 months, in addition to bank holidays.
- Option to request flexible working from day one.
- Colleague Clubcard savings of 10% normally and 15% on payday weekends, with potential annual savings of up to £2,000 and an extra card for family outside your household.
- Access to free wellbeing support covering mind, body, and overall life.
- Life cover worth five times your pay, plus a pension with matching contributions up to 7.5%.
- A choice of benefits such as discounts, shares, and cycle-to-work schemes.
- Provided uniform and workplace policies designed to support employees through important life moments.
- Access to colleague networks that bring people together from different backgrounds.
