Position overview
Carmichael International Service is hiring a meticulous, well-organized Data Entry Specialist for its Import Operations function in Itasca, Illinois. This full-time, hourly role focuses on opening import files and capturing customs-entry data for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The right candidate will confirm that all required paperwork has been received, build files in the company system, and enter shipment details with speed and precision.
This opportunity is well suited to someone with experience in customs brokerage, freight forwarding, logistics, or international trade who enjoys a busy environment and is committed to exceptional accuracy.
Key duties
- Monitor incoming emails and shipment paperwork.
- Confirm that all mandatory import and customs records are on hand.
- Create and open files in the internal operating platform.
- Enter shipment and customs information correctly into company systems.
- Work with operations staff and teammates to clarify document needs.
- Keep digital records and files organized and up to date.
- Spot inconsistencies in documents and help correct them.
- Achieve assigned productivity and accuracy targets.
- Support special assignments and other departmental tasks as needed.
- Adhere to company processes, compliance rules, and operational expectations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- At least 2 years of experience in customs brokerage, freight forwarding, logistics, international trade, or a closely related area.
- Strong keyboarding and data entry ability.
- Excellent precision and a strong eye for detail.
- Ability to handle several tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Good organization and time management skills.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Willingness and ability to learn industry-specific software.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Capable of working on your own as well as collaboratively.
- Preferred: prior exposure to customs brokerage systems and import-document workflows.
- Preferred: working knowledge of CBP procedures and regulations.
- Preferred: background in freight forwarding, transportation, logistics, or supply chain operations.
- Preferred: proven ability to process large volumes of data accurately and efficiently.
- Office-based role with significant computer use.
- Must be able to sit and work at a computer for long periods.
- Fast-moving environment with several deadlines.
- Occasional overtime may be needed based on business requirements.
