Job overview
This role is focused on carrying out floor-care work safely and in line with established procedures and site standards. The position also includes environmental services support when needed, along with floor maintenance tasks such as stripping, waxing, buffing, and other contract-related duties performed to required regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Follow safety rules, company policies, and work procedures, and intervene when unsafe behavior is observed.
- Work cooperatively with teammates to finish assigned tasks.
- Carry out repetitive work accurately and consistently.
- Keep the work area tidy and organized.
- Adhere to all company rules, policies, and operating procedures.
- Accept direction and respond appropriately to supervision.
- Communicate professionally with leads, supervisors, co-workers, managers, and customers.
- Step in during staffing shortages in custodial, recycling, or maintenance functions as needed.
- Assist the shift lead with completing punch-list items.
- Use the required personal protective equipment for each task.
- Maintain a polished professional appearance and behavior.
- Demonstrate awareness of customer service and customer satisfaction.
- Understand reporting systems and environmental requirements.
- Operate motorized cleaning equipment.
- Carry out daily upkeep for the assigned area.
- Clean and maintain tile, carpet, and brick flooring.
- Complete assignments within the expected timeframe.
- Use the correct chemicals and supplies according to procedure.
- Handle equipment properly and keep it in good working condition.
- Operate and maintain equipment safely and correctly.
- Use safety measures at all times, including wet-floor signage.
- Work independently with minimal supervision when required.
- Report safety concerns and hazards appropriately.
Qualifications and experience
No formal education is required. Prior experience of 6 months to 1 year is preferred, though an equivalent mix of education and experience may also be considered.
A valid driver’s license may be required. Completion of all safety and task-related training certifications is required, and forklift certification may also be needed.
Skills and abilities
The ideal candidate should be able to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and similar documents. Strong verbal and written communication skills are important, along with practical knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment care, and the safe use of cleaning chemicals and compounds.
Supervision
This role does not include supervisory responsibilities.
Physical requirements and work environment
The job may involve sitting, speaking, and listening for periods of time, and the employee must be able to lift or move up to 35 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be available for qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role.
Schedule and compensation
The working schedule is Monday through Friday, from 6:00pm to 2:00am. Pay is $18.00 to $20.00 per hour. The role is based on a 40-hour week, with the possibility of overtime.
