Role overview

VolkerFitzpatrick is hiring an experienced General Foreman to join the team on the Sturry Link Road project in Canterbury, Kent. This position is part of the site delivery team and is best suited to someone with a background in civils and/or highways infrastructure work.

The project involves building a 550-metre road and a 250-metre viaduct crossing the Great Stour River, the flood plain, and the railway line between Canterbury and Ramsgate. The viaduct will be a 5-span structure, with the longest span measuring 56 metres.

What the role involves

• Working as a key member of the site team to help drive project delivery.
• Supporting delivery on highways and infrastructure works with a strong focus on successful completion.
• Applying sound technical and project management judgement in day-to-day site activities.
• Maintaining high standards of organisation, supervision, and team coordination.
• Preparing Work Package Plans and Task Briefing Sheets and helping to put safe systems of work into practice.
• Making sure the project follows CDM requirements and other relevant site regulations.
• Monitoring safety, quality, and environmental matters throughout the project.

Candidate profile

The ideal applicant will bring substantial construction experience, including around 5 years delivering projects in an infrastructure setting. Experience on similar highways schemes with a strong record of project delivery is preferred. The role also calls for practical knowledge of safety, quality, and environmental requirements, along with the ability to work confidently in a busy project environment.

Requirements and qualifications

• Proven experience on comparable highways projects with evidence of successful delivery.
• Strong technical understanding and project management capability.
• Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
• Working knowledge of CDM regulations and how they are applied on site.
• Ability to prepare Work Package Plans, Task Briefing Sheets, and safe systems of work.
• Good awareness of safety, quality, and environmental responsibilities.
• At least 5 years of experience delivering projects within an infrastructure environment.
• CITB SMTS or an equivalent qualification.
• CSCS certification.
