Role summary
Great Falls Clinic Hospital is seeking an HIM Specialist to help safeguard the integrity of medical records across the hospital and its ancillary departments. The role centers on maintaining records that are secure, confidential, complete, and accurate, while following HIPAA requirements and internal compliance policies. The position uses the EHR system for patient record management and involves handling requests for information, supporting audits, and assisting with day-to-day departmental needs.
Key duties
You will manage correspondence and requests related to the release of information, keep logs of what has been requested and shared, and respond to high-volume audit requests. The role also includes telephone support, maintaining compliance with CMS rules and company procedures, and stepping in to help with other HIM tasks whenever needed. This position reports to the HIM Supervisor and HIM Director.
Education and experience
A high school diploma or an equivalent credential is required. Prior exposure to an office environment is expected, along with a comparable mix of education and experience that has developed relevant knowledge, abilities, and work habits.
Required knowledge and abilities
The ideal candidate should understand medical record practices for acute and ambulatory care, medical terminology, and the laws and regulations governing record content, privacy, release, and retention. Familiarity with health information systems, office procedures, basic arithmetic, and common computer applications is important. Strong organization, the ability to prioritize competing requests, courteous phone manner, clear communication, filing accuracy, sorting, data entry, and the ability to follow both verbal and written directions are also essential.

Any offer made for this role will depend on successful completion of screening checks. These include a criminal background check, drug screening, and health and immunizations screening.
