Role overview
This position sits within a global biotechnology business and works in close partnership with the Senior Director of Human Resources. The manager will act as a key support person to help deliver the HR strategy, strengthen operational processes, and ensure the organization maintains a compliant, engaged, and high-performing workforce. The role also serves as a dependable point of contact for managers and employees, helping to build a constructive workplace culture and support broader HR priorities.
Core responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on employee relations matters, workplace concerns, and performance-related challenges.
- Guide managers through sensitive people issues while ensuring practices align with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Champion performance management by coaching leaders on best practices, supporting employee-related situations, and improving internal performance frameworks and workflows.
- Support learning and growth initiatives through training, mentorship, and coaching that help build a collaborative, high-performing team aligned with company values.
- Design and roll out programs that improve culture, employee engagement, internal communication, and retention by elevating the overall employee experience.
- Draft, revise, and maintain HR policies, employee handbooks, and compliance procedures so they remain aligned with evolving legal requirements and business needs.
- Maintain accurate HR information across internal systems and produce reports and workforce analytics to inform both day-to-day operations and strategic decisions.
- Own the full recruitment cycle, creating a smooth and engaging candidate experience while developing sourcing approaches that attract diverse, high-quality talent and maintaining close partnership with hiring managers and recruiting partners.
- Analyze market data on compensation, benefits, and equity practices, then recommend improvements that help keep the organization competitive.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, plus at least 8 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, changing environment with a start-up mindset, managing several priorities while staying accountable to deadlines.
- Strong working knowledge of employment laws and regulations at the federal level and across multiple states; professional certifications such as SPHR, PHRca, or CCP are an advantage.
- Experience leading, mentoring, and developing HR team members while helping improve team effectiveness and growth.
- Analytical, solution-focused approach with strong command of Microsoft Office tools and HRIS systems.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the professionalism and sound judgment needed to work with senior leadership in challenging or unclear situations.
- Ability to influence decisions, handle complex scenarios thoughtfully, and communicate clearly and confidently.
