Interaction Designer – Advanced

Role overview

This contract role is for an experienced interaction designer to support online banking and digital servicing initiatives in Toronto. The work is centered on making self-service banking simpler and more intuitive so customers can manage their finances with confidence. You will join a small design group and work closely with multiple squads, as well as the design systems team, to shape digital experiences that are clear, consistent, and user-focused.

What you will do

• Develop design approaches for challenging and unclear problem statements.
• Partner with designers and developers to use the design system correctly, including accurate documentation and implementation support.
• Contribute to delivery planning by helping prioritize, organize, and execute design tasks.
• Champion improved design practices and broader adoption of design systems within the team.
• Maintain and refine design libraries along with supporting documentation.
• Work across several squads and cross-functional groups to deliver solutions centered on user needs.
• Take part in product discussions and help shape direction through informed design input.

Project focus

The assignment is focused on online banking and digital servicing features that support customers in handling their financial needs through straightforward self-service journeys. The goal is to create digital products that are easy to use and improve the overall customer experience.

Requirements

• At least 4 to 7+ years of experience in interaction design, UX design, product design, or a closely related field.
• Strong command of interaction design, visual design, and UX design-thinking methods.
• Hands-on experience working with design systems, including building components, managing assets, and documenting usage.
• Advanced proficiency with Figma.
• Strong understanding of current responsive web and mobile design standards.
• Proven ability to apply end-to-end design thinking and explain the full design process.
• Good judgment, analytical thinking, and confident decision-making skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication along with solid interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable working through ambiguity and solving complex problems proactively.
• Effective collaborator who can work well with designers, developers, product teams, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to clearly explain design decisions and present work with confidence.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with UX research methods.
• Knowledge of inclusive design and accessibility best practices.
• Experience leading or facilitating workshops.
• A product-design mindset with awareness of business strategy, systems thinking, research, and collaborative ways of working.
• Background in banking, financial services, fintech, or another complex enterprise environment is strongly preferred.

Additional information

This is a full-time contract engagement with a duration of 12 months and a strong possibility of extension. The work arrangement is hybrid, with 4 days onsite and 1 day remote in Toronto, Ontario.
