About Pear VC
Pear VC is an early-stage venture capital firm that works with founders from the very beginning, often before a company has an idea, product, or team in place. The team brings founder and operator experience, offering practical guidance, hiring support, and operational help to shape promising ideas into category-leading businesses. Its early investments have included companies such as DoorDash, Gusto, and Guardant Health.
Role Overview
The firm is hiring an Investor who can identify exceptional builders at the earliest stage of their journey, build relationships across founder communities, and introduce them into the Pear network for potential investment. The core mandate is to uncover future founders before they are widely known and to connect them with the broader Pear ecosystem.
What You'll Do
This is a highly independent position centered on one main objective: finding the strongest future founders before others do. You will represent Pear in multiple communities, map emerging founder ecosystems, and develop genuine relationships with the next wave of builders.
Although the work is primarily focused on sourcing and community engagement, the selected candidate will be coached and supported by an Investment Partner at Pear. The role also includes participation in weekly deal flow discussions and exposure to some of the top early-stage investors in the market.
Responsibilities
- Create real relationships with founders, engineers, researchers, professors, and recent graduates to identify the most promising future company builders.
- Attend, host, and organize events that encourage these builders to join PearX programs and generate seed-stage deal flow.
- Serve as the bridge between the founder community and Pear, ensuring the firm is the first place people turn when they decide to start something new.
- Select, coordinate, and guide a team of student Fellows who can help monitor campus activity and run programs that attract top-tier builders.
- Use creative, non-traditional methods to reach high-potential people and gain access to the right communities.
Qualifications
- Strong enthusiasm for sourcing and a genuine interest in identifying exceptional people.
- Existing credibility and a trusted network within the founder community, with the ability to speak their language and earn respect.
- Comfort working independently and making sound judgments without constant direction.
- Hands-on builder mindset, with prior experience as a founder, early startup team member, or community organizer.
- Strong relationship-building ability, with a friendly, optimistic, and authentic style.
- Highly dependable and organized, with the ability to manage many moving pieces without losing track of details.
- Natural curiosity and a first-principles approach to learning how products, markets, and systems work.
- Persistent, resourceful, and action-oriented, with a strong bias toward getting things done.
- A strong desire to build a reputation for spotting elite talent and identifying the next category-defining company.
Preferred Background
- B.S. in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in the startup or technology sector.
- Experience as a founder backed by venture capital.
- Active participation in campus startup communities.
