About Parade College
Parade College is an Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) school with a long-standing Catholic heritage. Its purpose is to develop young people into balanced, capable individuals who can contribute positively to the wider community. The school promotes a lively learning environment where students are supported to discover their strengths, aim high, and grow through strong teaching and pastoral care.
Founded in 1871, Parade College is recognised as the oldest Edmund Rice school in Australia. It offers a broad range of learning pathways, including academic, sporting, music, visual arts and trade options. The College is committed to best-practice education, holistic development and a culture of strong relationships across the staff, student and school community.
In 2025, the VCE Vocational Major program at the Preston campus became co-educational, with the College welcoming full-time female enrolments into Year 11 for the first time. From Term 1 2025, the program also expanded through a new Tertiary Pathways Program, including an additional stream in Sport Academy and a new Business Academy. These pathways are designed to support direct entry into selected La Trobe University undergraduate courses after completion of the two-year program.
The College values innovation, lifelong learning and high-quality professional relationships, and seeks staff who will contribute to this environment with energy and commitment.
Role overview
The Learning Area Leader for Languages will serve as the senior educational leader within the discipline, guiding curriculum, teaching practice, assessment and student achievement across Years 7–12. The position calls for strategic thinking, initiative and the ability to influence and support colleagues in a high-performing team.
This leadership role is responsible for helping shape the direction of the Languages learning area so that it remains aligned with the College vision, Victorian Curriculum 2.0, VCE Study Designs, VCE Vocational Major requirements and the EREA Touchstone of a Liberating Education.
The successful applicant will begin on 27 January 2027. The appointment is for an initial three-year leadership term and includes an ongoing teaching role alongside the leadership responsibilities. The position includes a generous Position of Leadership Allowance and a time allowance per cycle.
Languages Faculty
Studying a second language is seen as an important part of student development at Parade College. It broadens career possibilities, deepens cultural understanding, supports cognitive growth and strengthens intercultural awareness. Through learning another language, students develop communication skills, reflective thinking and a better understanding of how languages and cultures shape human experience.
Teaching and learning environment
Parade College describes its learning culture as personalised, lifelong and strongly community-based. The school celebrates the talents of all students while emphasising mutual support and a shared commitment to excellence. Over more than 150 years, the College has built strong capability in supporting students’ spiritual, academic, social, emotional and physical development.
The curriculum combines established educational practice with contemporary theory, design and technology-rich classroom environments. Learning spaces are well resourced and intended to support a wide range of teaching and learning approaches.
