Role overview
This position is centered on keeping engineering stores and plant maintenance support running smoothly at the Guwahati site. The role covers spare-parts control, chemicals and consumables management, statutory storage compliance, vendor coordination, and close alignment with engineering, finance, EHS, and procurement teams. A major part of the job is to help ensure uninterrupted production by maintaining the right inventory levels for critical materials and supporting continuous improvement in store and maintenance processes.
The inventory under management is significant, with spare parts estimated at roughly INR 5–10 crore. The role also includes arranging HSD/LPG availability, driving value engineering with internal stakeholders and the myBUY team, and supporting the store KC requirements for the plant. The incumbent is expected to contribute to TPM culture, PEMM-related initiatives, and overall plant efficiency.
Core accountabilities
- Manage spare parts, chemicals, and consumables in line with site standards and maintain proper stock availability.
- Coordinate with different departments to ensure that required materials are available on time and inventory data remains accurate.
- Carry out regular stock counts, reconciliations, and audits to eliminate inventory mismatches.
- Oversee proper stacking, receipt, recording, and documentation of incoming materials.
- Maintain timely GRN and KC-related compliance across departments.
- Track and share inventory status with stakeholders on a regular basis.
- Ensure availability of HSD and LPG whenever required.
- Create vendor codes, support vendor development for KGF, and coordinate with finance for engineering scrap disposal.
- Issue chemicals and consumables according to FEFO principles.
- Prepare purchase requisitions and purchase orders in SAP and Ariba when needed.
- Handle documentation for rejected materials and supplier returns.
- Follow up with suppliers for secondary packaging materials.
- Support EHS responsibilities, awareness creation, execution, and GEHSMS compliance.
- Train operatives on basic process and safety-related topics.
- Ensure timely reports and system records for all store activities.
- Complete all store-related KC requirements within the expected timelines.
- Support the green agenda by ensuring adequate biomass briquette stock at the plant.
- Clear exceptions in time so vendor payments can be released without delay.
- Coordinate with finance and IBM teams for timely vendor payment processing.
- Monitor R&M on a daily basis and complete corrections and reclassification on a weekly basis.
- Support the plant team during AIB and statutory audits.
- Help maintain 100% uptime of process lines by ensuring timely issue of spare parts and maintaining optimum engineering store inventory.
- Work with engineering and other stakeholders to update min-max and reorder levels so that spares are available without excess inventory build-up.
- Share timely consumption trends of specific spare parts with stakeholders.
- Contribute to task-force work aimed at small, continuous plant improvements.
- Analyze problems jointly with the team and help identify procurement solutions for specific parts, projects, or online quality issues.
- Get proposed solutions approved by the Plant Head or Engineering Manager.
- Take part in team meetings, identify gaps and concerns, and help build action plans.
- Implement agreed action plans and help resolve team issues where possible.
- Support benchmarking efforts, change initiatives, and improvement plans for the department.
- Provide regular feedback on implementation progress and highlight process improvement opportunities.
- Support the Engineering Manager in fulfilling KC-related responsibilities for plant engineering.
- Assist in building TPM culture and PEMM practices within the engineering department.
Requirements
- A B.E. or diploma qualification in Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics, or Mechanical engineering is required.
- Relevant functional experience of around 4 to 8 years is expected.
- Hands-on exposure of 2 to 3 years in a similar industry at supervisory level is needed.
- Experience in handling engineering stores or warehouse operations is preferred.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing systems and shop-floor practices is important.
- Strong coordination and communication skills are required.
- Language ability in English, Assamese, and Hindi is needed.
Additional details
- The role involves interacting internally with reportees, shift in-charge, quality manager, manufacturing manager, HR manager, and plant head.
- External coordination will be required with vendors, fabricators, and similar partners.
Eligibility
Candidates with the required engineering education, relevant store or warehouse experience, and supervisory exposure in a manufacturing environment are suitable for this role. Applicants should be comfortable working with plant teams, vendors, finance, procurement, and audit-related processes in a production setting.
