Job Purpose
This position is accountable for monitoring and operating plant systems such as the boiler, turbine, generator, balance of plant, switchyard, and transformer areas to keep them performing efficiently and to carry out start-up and shut-down activities when needed. The role also covers Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) operation, equipment upkeep, energy-saving initiatives, and compliance with environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
Control Room / Lead Desk / FGD / Switchyard Operations
- Track the performance of boiler, turbine, generator, BOP, and electrical systems to ensure steady and efficient operation.
- Carry out plant start-up and shut-down activities as required.
- Continuously watch plant readings and take quick action when values deviate from normal.
- Perform routine equipment changeovers and conduct trials for emergency drives.
Emergency Handling and Equipment Management
- Respond to plant emergencies involving the boiler-turbine-generator (BTG) system and coordinate corrective action.
- Manage switchyard and grid-related emergencies to reduce disruption to operations.
- Ensure equipment is safely isolated and restored to normal condition based on operational needs or emergency situations.
- Operate the FGD system and monitor its parameters regularly.
- Keep all plant parameter logbooks complete and updated.
Energy Conservation and Environmental Compliance
- Support energy conservation efforts across operations, with attention to Specific Oil Consumption (SOC), Auxiliary Power Consumption (APC), Demineralized (DM) water usage, and heat rate.
- Monitor key chemistry values to support environmental compliance and efficient operations.
- Oversee FGD operation to help control emissions and meet environmental regulations.
Business Sustainability and Safety
- Follow IMS, AWMS, DISHA, and CHETNA requirements within the department.
- Protect the safety of people and equipment through proper training and strict adherence to safety practices.
- Work in line with Permit to Work (PTW) procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Report defects and plant issues promptly to the shift in charge.
Digitization and Automation
- Support digitization initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency.
- Help implement automation solutions that align with business goals and strategy.
- Contribute ideas and improvements by adopting newer technologies and process enhancements.

Qualifications and Experience
A BE/B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering discipline from a recognized institution is required. The role calls for at least 9 years of experience in power plant operations, preferably in thermal power generation.
