Role overview
The District School Board Ontario North East is hiring a Monitor for Kirkland Lake District Composite School. This is a newly created full-time position based onsite in Kirkland Lake, Ontario.
Work schedule
The assignment runs from September 1, 2026 to June 17, 2027, with a workload of 35 hours per week.
What the role involves
Monitors are responsible for overseeing students during key parts of the school day, including nutrition breaks, recess, arrival, and dismissal. Supervision is expected both indoors and outdoors, with attention to student safety at all times.
Essential duties
- Oversee and support student arrival and dismissal, including bus duty.
- Help organize students so movement is orderly at the start and end of the day.
- Provide yard supervision during all recess periods.
- Watch hallways, classrooms, and washrooms as needed.
- Supervise lunch areas and classroom spaces during breaks.
- Supervise students in assigned indoor areas when weather is poor.
- Follow all school safety procedures and help maintain a secure environment.
- Identify behavior concerns, address them appropriately, and escalate them to the Principal or Vice Principal.
- Consult the Principal or Vice Principal when guidance is needed.
Education and experience
A Grade 12 diploma or an equivalent credential is required. Experience working in a school environment is preferred.
Skills and qualities needed
The board is looking for someone who is reliable, punctual, attentive to student safety, and able to communicate well with students and staff. The role also calls for strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a school team, respect for confidentiality, and comfort handling student interactions appropriately. Physical capability is important, including the ability to work outdoors in all weather, climb stairs, and walk distances while supervising. First aid and CPR would be an asset.
Compensation
The rate of pay is $20.64 per hour.
