Role Overview

Vertiv is looking for a seasoned NPDI Sourcing Engineer to strengthen its Global Procurement team. In this position, you will drive sourcing and purchasing work for assigned product families across the entire New Product Development and Introduction (NPD/NPI) journey. You will act as the main procurement link between Engineering, Commodity Management, suppliers, and Manufacturing to help ensure successful launches, supply readiness, competitive costs, and delivery on schedule.

The role also covers support for prototype builds, supplier evaluation, BOM cost control, transfer to production, risk reduction, and procurement outputs from early concept through full-scale manufacturing.

This is an onsite position and may be based in either Burnfoot or Letterkenny in the Republic of Ireland, or Campsie in Northern Ireland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own sourcing and purchasing activity across the NPI lifecycle, starting at concept and prototype stages and continuing through pilot runs and mass production.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Commodity Management, Operations, and suppliers to support effective product introductions.
  • Make sure components are purchased from approved sources while balancing cost, quality, lead time, and continuity of supply.
  • Improve supplier preparedness and material availability so project milestones and production timelines are met.
  • Support prototype procurement plans and coordinate fast delivery of prototype materials with Engineering and Purchasing.
  • Evaluate supplier pricing, tooling needs, and manufacturing proposals, then recommend options based on commercial value, quality, and risk.
  • Find and deliver savings opportunities through e-Auctions, value engineering, and supplier negotiations.
  • Maintain purchase BOM cost tracking and monitor cost movement against target pricing.
  • Coordinate with local and global procurement teams to reduce supply risks and assist with production transfer work.
  • Run sourcing reviews for critical projects and ensure agreed mitigation actions are completed on time.
  • Lead or contribute to NPD/NPI review meetings and support procurement inputs for stage-gate reviews.
  • Track procurement KPIs accurately and push corrective actions when targets are missed.
  • Support supplier risk and resilience assessments to improve continuity of supply and overall business readiness.
  • Coordinate launch and ramp-up activities with EMS and manufacturing partners to keep projects on track.
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Industrial), Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or a related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in Supply Chain, Procurement, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a similar function.
  • Prior involvement in NPI/NPDI programs within manufacturing or technology settings is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of sourcing and procurement processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read technical specifications, engineering drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Experience handling several projects at once in cross-functional and matrixed organizations.
  • Knowledge of product industrialization, supplier development, and production launch processes.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Ability to develop productive supplier relationships and influence teams across regions.
  • Experience using ERP and PLM systems, plus strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Willingness to work across global time zones when needed.
  • Continuous-improvement mindset with the ability to support change and process optimization.
  • Preferred certifications include PMP and CPSM.
  • Travel requirement: 15%.
