Role summary

Ontario Power Generation is seeking a proactive and commercially minded Procurement Specialist to join its Corporate Category Management team in Oshawa, Ontario. In this permanent full-time role, you will support indirect procurement activities across categories such as facilities, office supplies, uniforms, and services, while helping the organization secure strong commercial outcomes and reliable supplier performance.

What you will do

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Category Management, you will help shape and execute category strategies, run competitive sourcing events, negotiate agreements, and administer procurement documents that support the timely purchase of goods and services.

You will also handle contract administration matters, support internal stakeholders and suppliers, monitor vendor performance, and contribute to governance and issue resolution across the procurement lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver category strategies for indirect spend by assessing the market, understanding demand, and planning sourcing activity.
  • Run competitive sourcing processes such as RFI, RFP, and RFQ exercises while maintaining a strong and compliant supplier field.
  • Review proposals, assess total value and cost, coordinate stakeholder evaluations, and recommend award decisions that match business needs and category objectives.
  • Negotiate commercial conditions and supplier commitments, and draft or update agreements and standard contracting documents such as MSAs, SOW templates, and rate cards.
  • Prepare, issue, and manage procurement documents including contracts, purchase orders, amendments, renewals, and change orders.
  • Administer contract-related matters such as supplier claims, progress payments where applicable, and escalation or price adjustment claims under contract terms.
  • Serve as a key procurement contact for internal clients and suppliers by supporting governance meetings, giving guidance, sharing status updates, and resolving issues.
  • Track and improve supplier performance through KPI and SLA monitoring, vendor reviews, and oversight of procurement and compliance-related supplier activities.

Qualifications and experience

The ideal candidate will have a 4-year university degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Science, or Law, or a WES-confirmed equivalent.

A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in corporate category management for indirect spend is preferred. You should also have practical knowledge of contract law, commercial contract terms, and business administration.

Success in this role requires the ability to understand internal procedures and working relationships across departments within the organization, as well as with external organizations.
