About the Role
Western Asset Management is hiring a Product Analyst to join the Portfolio Management and Research team in Melbourne. The position is centered on producing analysis and insights that help shape investment solutions for clients and communities. You will apply analytical thinking to support decisions across the firm’s fixed-income platform while developing experience that can lead to future opportunities in product, research, portfolio management, or trading.
Key Responsibilities
- Work alongside Portfolio Managers, Client Service Executives, and Product Specialists to provide quantitative and analytical support to client service and marketing functions.
- Review existing and prospective portfolios and explain the investment approach as well as the factors driving relative performance.
- Build portfolio reports and analytical materials for client-facing communications.
- Respond to quantitative and analytical enquiries from client service partners.
- Prepare statistical datasets and analytical reports for internal stakeholders.
- Develop recurring and one-off analysis to support client service and marketing initiatives.
- Generate performance and risk reports, including important metrics for external communication.
- Create monthly, quarterly, and other market updates for distribution to clients.
- Write monthly commentary and provide ongoing portfolio analysis.
- Support new and existing business efforts through RFP responses and database queries.
- Provide portfolio and client analytics to assist Product Specialists.
- Contribute to ad hoc projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Work across departments to spot opportunities and help resolve issues.
- Assist in preparing internal and external publications, presentations, and reports.
- Build confidence in presenting at small and medium-sized conferences and forums.
Required Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
- At least 5 years of relevant asset management experience is beneficial.
- CFA Level I completion is required at minimum, with progress toward the full CFA designation preferred.
- Good understanding of fixed-income markets and instruments, or a strong interest in them.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel usage including VBA.
- Very strong use of Bloomberg tools and analytics.
- Working knowledge of SQL and Python is considered an advantage.
- Strong conceptual, structured, and analytical thinking.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Ability to isolate key points from complex matters and explain findings clearly.
- Strong organisational ability with the capacity to handle several deadlines at once.
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to support shared goals.
