Opportunity
Save the Children, working together with Balaka District Council, is looking for an experienced and committed Project Coordinator to oversee delivery of the TiKuMA Education Project in Balaka District. The role will be stationed at the Balaka District Education Office and will report to the Director of Education, Youth and Sports.
In this role, you will lead the project from end to end, making sure activities are implemented effectively, coordination remains strong, deadlines are met, and both donor and government compliance requirements are followed. You will collaborate with government offices, community groups, development partners, and other stakeholders to help improve education outcomes for children in Balaka District.
The position calls for responsibility across project planning, delivery, monitoring, reporting, budgeting, stakeholder engagement, capacity development, donor coordination, and team supervision, while ensuring safeguarding is embedded across all activities.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction and overall oversight for the TiKuMA Education Project.
- Coordinate planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting of project activities.
- Ensure project objectives are delivered on time and in line with donor and government expectations.
- Manage budgeting, financial tracking, and resource coordination for the project.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with government departments, community structures, development partners, and other stakeholders.
- Support and guide project staff and contribute to team leadership.
- Strengthen the capacity of partners and stakeholders involved in implementation.
- Integrate safeguarding principles into all project processes and activities.
- Prepare high-quality reports and support documentation as required.
- Respond flexibly to major humanitarian emergencies, including adjustments to duties and working hours if needed.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Education or a closely related discipline.
- Prior experience working as a primary or secondary school teacher.
- At least 4 years of experience in education programming.
- Proven background in coordinating development projects and handling partnerships.
- Strong ability in leadership, coordination, and people management.
- Solid understanding of project planning, monitoring, budgeting, and reporting.
- Demonstrated stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation, analytical, and report-writing abilities.
- High standards of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
- Clear commitment to children’s rights and safeguarding.
- Competence in Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
- Willingness and ability to travel within project areas as required.
