Role overview
An established Irish public-sector organization is hiring a Property Mapping Surveyor for its Strategic Property team in Athlone. The position sits within the Property Legal, Conveyancing and Procurement function and plays an important part in supporting property management, land portfolio records, and mapping work across the organization.
The role is responsible for keeping land boundary information accurate for asset management and marketing, preparing mapping and title material for legal conveyancing, and supporting acquisitions, due diligence, and site investigations. It also involves maintaining and improving the GIS mapping environment used by property and regional teams.
Department purpose
The Strategic Property Department supports the organization’s wider strategic goals across property portfolio management, regional building delivery, infrastructure development, strategic land acquisition, site initiatives, stakeholder engagement, sustainability, asset management, and estate management.
Key duties
- Complete surveying of organization-owned lands using GPS surveying tools.
- Prepare and manage all property mapping documents required for legal conveyancing, including property instructions, title burden reviews, requisitions, and Declarations of Identity.
- Create information maps, transaction maps, contract maps, rectification maps, and Land Registry-compliant maps.
- Maintain, manage, and update the GIS database and the IDARE system.
- Look after geospatial datasets within a growing Geospatial and Data team, keeping databases and web applications current and helping design new processes where needed.
- Build dashboards, workflows, and automation to improve efficiency.
- Provide ongoing training and support to Property and Regions teams on the GIS interface.
- Assist with site due diligence and title investigation for acquisitions.
- Liaise with external consultants and engineers on site set-out for disposals and boundary rectification, and work with third parties to resolve boundary issues.
- Update and maintain CAD mapping.
- Contribute as a member of the Strategic Property team and complete other duties relevant to the purpose of the role.
- Use technology effectively to support efficient property business operations.
- Prepare and present proposals to the relevant committees or board on property mapping matters.

Competencies and experience
The ideal candidate is a proactive, approachable self-starter with specialist mapping and surveying experience. The role calls for strong client relationship skills, project management ability, clear communication, sound business and property understanding, negotiation and influencing capability, creativity, innovation, and networking skills.
Additional requirements
This role requires a Level 8 qualification in Engineering or Surveying, along with at least 3 years of experience in a similar position. Candidates must be comfortable working independently, handling pressure, and managing multiple deadlines and priorities. A full driving licence is essential, and the position includes travel and work outside normal office hours. Flexibility and interest in international career progression and development are also expected.
Desirable skills
Advantageous experience includes Safe Software’s FME platform, scripting languages such as Python and SQL, and working knowledge of Oracle, Tableau, and Power BI.
Salary and benefits
The salary range is €52,546 to €75,472 per year, with contributory superannuation. Appointment starts at the minimum point of the scale. Annual increments apply, and long-service increments can raise the maximum to €77,286 after 3 years of satisfactory service at the top of the range.
