Public Works Supervisor

Position Overview

The Public Service Supervisor is responsible for organizing, directing, and overseeing the daily work of skilled and unskilled staff involved in the construction, repair, and upkeep of municipal assets. This role provides hands-on supervision for Union Maintenance Employees within the Department of Public Service and ensures that work is carried out efficiently, safely, and in line with city standards.

Key Duties

This position focuses on day-to-day planning, work scheduling, and supervision of public service crews. The supervisor manages labor, materials, and equipment effectively, uses municipal and related software tools to record employee time and track material and equipment usage, and responds to service requests and customer concerns. The role also supports sustainable practices by choosing appropriate materials, methods, and technologies that help limit environmental impact in routine operations.

Operational Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate daily assignments for maintenance and public works crews.
• Oversee employees performing skilled and unskilled construction, repair, and maintenance tasks.
• Monitor and direct the work of Union Maintenance Employees on a daily basis.
• Track employee hours, materials, and equipment usage through municipal software systems.
• Review, investigate, and resolve service requests and customer complaints or inquiries.
• Ensure labor, material, and equipment resources are used efficiently in public service operations.
• Encourage and apply sustainable methods and materials to reduce environmental impact.

Hourly range: $25.39 to $44.67
