Role Overview
This full-time, on-site Quantity Surveyor position is based in Brisbane City, Queensland. The role supports project teams through both pre-contract and post-contract stages, with responsibility for preparing and reviewing bills of quantities, cost plans, and estimates for construction and infrastructure work. You will help track project expenditure, prepare commercial and cost reports, review variations, and assist with claims and wider commercial management activities. The role requires close coordination with project managers, engineers, and clients to maintain accurate forecasts, disciplined cost control, and compliance with contractual commitments. You will also support value engineering, assess risks and opportunities, and contribute to improving cost management processes and tools.
Key Duties
- Assist project teams across pre-contract and post-contract phases.
- Prepare and review bills of quantities, cost plans, and project estimates.
- Monitor project spending and keep commercial tracking up to date.
- Draft cost reports and provide clear financial insight to stakeholders.
- Evaluate variations and support claims and commercial administration.
- Work with project managers, engineers, and clients to maintain cost accuracy and contract alignment.
- Contribute to value engineering exercises and identify risks and opportunities.
- Help improve cost control methods, reporting processes, and related tools.
Requirements
- Proven background in cost planning and cost management for construction or infrastructure projects, including preparation of detailed budgets and estimates.
- Strong capability in cost control and reporting, with the ability to track commitments, predict final costs, and explain commercial impacts clearly.
- Solid BOQ preparation and measurement experience, including take-offs, quantity verification, and pricing using accepted standards and methods.
- Experience assisting with variations, claims, and commercial reporting, preferably on complex or large-scale projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or a similar field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Working knowledge of standard construction contract forms and contract administration practices.
- Strong numerical ability, attention to detail, and analytical thinking, along with advanced Excel skills and familiarity with estimating or cost management software.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
- Professional membership, or progress toward membership, with a recognized body such as AIQS or RICS is preferred.
- Must be able to work on-site in Brisbane City, Queensland, and support several projects or workstreams when needed.
