About January

January is rethinking consumer finance by making collections more humane. Its data-led products are designed to help financial institutions improve recovery operations while giving borrowers clear, respectful ways to restore financial stability. The company’s broader goal is not only to expand access to credit, but also to help people regain dignity and move toward financial freedom.

Role Overview

As a Recruiter, you will run searches with strong operational discipline and a high standard for quality. The role calls for fast execution, careful judgment, and a consistent focus on hiring people who can raise the company’s capability across engineering, product, operations, and business teams. You will be expected to treat recruiting as a measurable, repeatable system and help improve the processes that power January’s hiring engine.

What You Will Do

  • Manage 6 to 8 active searches at the same time and deliver hires that support growth goals without reducing the hiring standard.
  • Source standout candidates from companies known for strong talent density and assess quality early, even when information is limited.
  • Build and improve recruiting systems through playbooks, automation, and tested process changes that make hiring more efficient over time.
  • Partner with hiring managers and coach them to become stronger recruiting collaborators, including sourcing support and clearer accountability.
  • Protect the quality bar by declining weak candidates when needed and explaining no-hire decisions clearly to senior stakeholders.
  • Use data to spot bottlenecks, run experiments, and continuously improve conversion rates, speed, and overall recruiting effectiveness.

What We’re Looking For

  • At least 3 years of full-cycle recruiting experience in high-growth startups or technology companies, including 1+ year handling technical recruiting and experience across other functions.
  • A proven record of hiring from elite organizations and being able to explain why those hires stood out beyond their credentials.
  • Experience scaling recruiting operations while maintaining quality, including hiring 20+ people during a growth phase without lowering the bar.
  • Ability to create recruiting infrastructure that others can use, such as playbooks, process improvements, and experimentation frameworks.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use funnel data and conversion metrics to diagnose recruiting problems.
  • Effective stakeholder management skills, especially in helping hiring managers shift from reactive to proactive participation.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and building processes from the ground up.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to turn recruiting challenges into practical recommendations for different audiences.
  • Confidence to push back when standards may slip, while staying accountable to outcomes.
  • Resilience, persistence, and steady urgency when working through difficult hiring challenges.

How You Should Approach the Work

  • Take collaborative ownership and step into gaps without waiting to be asked.
  • Favor speed over perfection by making decisions with incomplete information and improving through iteration.
  • Value direct, candid feedback and prioritize honest conversations over polite avoidance.
  • Focus on the quality of thinking and process, not just the final result.
  • Start with diagnosis and root-cause analysis before suggesting solutions.
  • Prefer clear writing and documentation as a way to scale clarity and alignment.
