Role Overview

The Recycler role supports sustainability and backroom efficiency by handling donated merchandise in a safe and organized way. You will work closely with the Merchandise Processing Supervisor to unload, sort, weigh, label, and route donations so they move smoothly through processing and toward the sales floor. This position helps reduce waste, maintain clean work areas, and support recycling-focused operations.

Key Duties

• Unload incoming donations and place them into the correct sorting bins.
• Sort, organize, weigh, label, and record merchandise while keeping bins in the correct date sequence.
• Watch donation bins and move items forward for processing when needed.
• Replenish stock in sub-departments and shift rerouted bins as required.
• Dispose of unsellable or damaged merchandise in line with company procedures.
• Assist with baling, compacting, recycling, and organizing back stock.
• Help prepare for sale days and support other general store operations.
• Keep the processing and donation areas clean, orderly, and free of hazards.
• Use balers, compactors, and forklifts only when certified and follow all safety protocols.
• Practice safe lifting, use required protective equipment, and report hazards without delay.
• Complete basic administrative work such as weight logs and inventory records.

Schedule and Availability

This position requires open availability, including weekends, holidays, and closing shifts. Availability is expected for days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

What You Bring

• At least 1 year of warehouse experience.
• Strong attention to safety and compliance.
• Ability to work efficiently in an active, fast-paced setting.
• Mechanical and technical aptitude.

Additional Advantages

• Experience using a forklift, baler, or garbage compactor.
• Previous work in a thrift retail environment.
• A valid Class G driver’s licence with 3 years of experience driving delivery vans.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, twisting, and moving around throughout the shift.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push or pull rolling containers weighing up to 500 lbs.
• Exposure to dust, dirt, insects, garbage, and occasional rodents.
• Work in a noisy environment with changing temperatures.
• Frequent interaction with customers and members of the public.

The pay rate for this role is $17.95 per hour.
