Resource Planner

About the Role

This position sits within EY’s resource planning function and focuses on aligning future staffing needs with available capacity. You will work closely with key stakeholders in the practice to plan ahead for resource demand, manage conflicts, and support a consistent planning approach across the business. The role also involves monitoring shortages and availability through EY’s Resource Management System (Retain), along with preparing regular reporting for the business unit.

Key Responsibilities

• Track and action planning requests and updates submitted by engagement teams, reviewing and challenging the plans where needed.
• Watch for booking clashes, resource gaps, and changes in availability.
• Support the annual year-end planning cycle.
• Review engagement metrics and ensure resources are assigned appropriately across the business unit.
• Give priority to client bookings when required.
• Compile weekly utilisation and chargeability reports, check for inconsistencies, and investigate issues as needed.
• Build monthly forecasts and performance analysis for the business unit.
• Keep annual headcount projection data current.
• Help client-facing staff understand the resourcing process.
• Work with Learning and Development to schedule resources for training.
• Update counsellor and buddy details in the Lead system.

Requirements

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
• Solid Excel ability at an intermediate to advanced level.
• Background working with large teams in a professional, service-led environment; workforce planning or resource planning experience is helpful but not mandatory.
• Clear interest in resource management and improving planning practices.
• Working understanding of the key financial drivers and KPIs in a professional services firm, especially production and utilisation, or a demonstrated ability to learn these concepts quickly.
