Position overview
This opportunity is for an accomplished Scrum Master to support a highly visible federal program in a fast-moving Agile setting. The role centers on guiding Agile ceremonies, mentoring teams on Scrum practices, clearing blockers, and encouraging continuous improvement throughout the software delivery process.
The right candidate will bring hands-on experience leading Agile teams, building strong collaboration between technical and business partners, and helping deliver complex initiatives in large enterprise environments.
Work location and clearance
This role is 100% onsite in Washington, DC at 1701 New York Avenue, Washington, DC 20036. U.S. citizenship is required due to the security clearance requirement.
Employment details
This is a 6-month contract role. The target compensation range is $75,000 to $125,000, with the exact offer influenced by education, years of experience, certifications, and other role-specific factors.
Key responsibilities
The Scrum Master will support one or more Agile teams and help them stay aligned with Scrum and broader Agile practices. Core duties include running sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, backlog refinement, and release planning sessions.
The role also involves coaching team members, Product Owners, and stakeholders on Agile methods and improvement practices; identifying and removing impediments; helping manage and prioritize the backlog; and supporting realistic sprint commitments and consistent delivery rhythms.
In addition, the Scrum Master will work closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, project managers, and leadership to keep priorities aligned, communicate status and risks, and strengthen cross-functional collaboration. The position also includes driving Agile maturity, using metrics to improve transparency, and supporting broader Agile transformation efforts where needed.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a BS in a relevant field plus 5 years of relevant experience. A solid background as a Scrum Master in Agile software development environments is expected, along with a deep understanding of Scrum, Kanban, and Lean principles.
Applicants should be comfortable facilitating Agile ceremonies, coaching cross-functional teams, resolving obstacles, managing dependencies, and supporting successful sprint execution. Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder-management abilities are essential, as is experience with tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Rally, or similar Agile platforms.
Preferred background
Helpful additional qualifications include an Agile certification such as CSM, PSM, SAFe Scrum Master, or a similar credential. Experience with large enterprise or federal programs, Agile portfolio management, release planning, scaled Agile setups, and distributed teams will be an advantage.
