Role overview
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand is hiring a Senior Analyst for its Supervisory Frameworks and Systems team within the Financial Stability Group. The role focuses on helping strengthen the country’s financial system through better supervision, risk insight, and policy support.
The Financial Stability Group is responsible for spotting, evaluating, and responding to threats and weaknesses across New Zealand’s financial system. Its work supports macro-prudential policy, improves supervisory practice, and helps ensure regulated institutions are monitored effectively. The Supervisory Frameworks and Systems team exists to enable supervision that is modern, risk-based, insight-led, efficient, consistent, and digitally enabled.
The team’s analysis supports informed decision-making, internal committees, and the Reserve Bank’s wider financial stability objectives by turning risk information into clear advice and practical supervisory action.
What you will do
- Carry out research and analytical work that supports the Reserve Bank’s priorities and strategic direction.
- Draft well-structured analysis using decision-making approaches to help senior leaders compare options and choose next steps.
- Present findings in a clear and convincing way to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Help prepare advice for senior decision-makers and Reserve Bank committees.
- Follow required processes and deliver accurate, high-quality work within deadlines.
- Review existing workflows and contribute ideas that improve efficiency and quality.
- Develop and sustain productive working relationships with stakeholders.
- Support the implementation of the Bank’s supervisory modernisation agenda.
- Take ownership of analytical initiatives and help guide and coach less experienced colleagues.
About you
You should bring a tertiary qualification in economics, statistics, data science, finance, or a closely related field. The role also calls for two to three years of relevant professional experience in banking, insurance, financial markets, law, accounting, macroeconomics, economics, or another central bank.
Strong research, analytical, and conceptual thinking skills are essential, along with practical exposure to change management, continuous improvement, business analysis, or project management. You should understand financial systems, especially New Zealand banking and the regulatory environment, and be able to work effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
The Reserve Bank is looking for someone who is proactive, resilient, collaborative, and able to apply sound judgement to complex issues while keeping a broad, joined-up perspective.
