What the role involves
The Senior Project Manager will help drive an ICT programme by strengthening governance, programme reporting, financial oversight, and RAID management. The position calls for strong communication with senior leaders, including C-suite stakeholders, and the ability to prepare high-quality updates for executives, boards, and other external parties. Success in the role will depend on combining excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage work independently and deliver outcomes from start to finish.
Governance and programme control
- Create governance structures and reporting rhythms that keep delivery actions and recommendations on track.
- Work with stakeholders to collect, combine, and present progress updates.
- Track milestones, deliverables, and timelines so that programme activity stays aligned with organisational priorities.
- Run regular governance sessions to assess progress and support decision-making.
- Share and put into action the outcomes of governance decisions across the programme.
- Monitor and report on delivery of key initiatives and related programmes.
Service planning
- Make sure ICT services are planned and delivered in line with strategic objectives.
- Improve prioritisation approaches by incorporating recommendations from internal and external reviews.
- Partner with service delivery teams to ensure work supports remediation goals.
Programme reporting
- Act as a communication and reporting bridge between the programme and wider stakeholders.
- Produce detailed reports covering progress achieved, challenges encountered, and next steps.
Financial management
- Manage funding and financial oversight for specific parts of the programme.
- Review financial transactions to confirm they remain within approved budgets.
- Prepare regular financial updates for stakeholders, including budget position and variance information.
RAID management
- Identify, assess, and reduce risks and issues that could affect delivery.
- Keep thorough records of all risks and issues and ensure they are actively managed.
External engagement
- Lead stakeholder engagement efforts and support the prioritisation of ICT initiatives.
- Ensure funding is directed to areas that fit the organisation’s strategic direction.
Experience and qualifications
The ideal candidate will bring at least 5 years of project management experience within the public sector, specifically in ICT, cyber, or a related area. They should be confident presenting to senior executives and producing polished reports, with strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability. The role also requires someone who can operate independently, manage end-to-end delivery, and work effectively in a busy multi-vendor environment. Experience in public procurement, financial management, and reporting processes is expected.
Core strengths
Strong leadership, relationship-building, and attention to detail are important for success in this position. The candidate should be comfortable using project management tools and methodologies and be able to communicate clearly in both written and spoken form.
Additional requirements
The role may require Garda Vetting and Foreign Police Clearance, where applicable, and these checks must be completed before the start date. The employer is an equal opportunities organisation.
